INVESTMENTS

Racari Grid Balancing Energy Hub
Racari Grid Balancing Energy Hub pioneers a unique and creative integration of various energy technologies. These technologies work synergistically, with each element complementing and amplifying the others.

Key components of the Inno-Hub include:
  • Two 20MWel hybrid gas power plants: Each equipped with 6 engines and a 6MW/6MWh battery storage system, resulting in a total installed capacity of 52MW.
  • 18 MW hydrogen production facility: This generates approximately 10MW of hydrogen, replacing 25% of the gas needed to operate the engines.
  • 50 MW/100 MWh battery storage system (BESS): Provides additional energy storage capabilities.
  • 40MW photovoltaic park: Supplies clean energy to the hydrogen production and battery storage systems.

With a total installed capacity of 112 MWp and an investment exceeding 120 million euros, Racari Grid Balancing Energy Hub is a game-changer. The first 20MWel gas engine project is already operational, actively supporting the integration of green energy into the national grid by mitigating imbalances caused by renewable sources.

Romania's facing a double challenge: combating climate change and ensuring a stable energy grid for its crucial agricultural sector. Fossil fuels are the enemy here, driving up emissions. The answer? Sustainable sources like hydro, wind, and solar. However, these renewables can be unpredictable.

This is where the Racari Grid Balancing Energy Hub comes in. By investing in grid balancing solutions, it can ensure a reliable energy flow as Romania transitions to renewables. This project strengthens Romania's energy sector, meets environmental goals, creates jobs, and enjoys strong institutional support - a win-win for all stakeholders.

The entire hub is expected to be fully operational, with all technologies working in concert, by the end of 2026.
